ATTENDANCE
You should aim to attend school every day. If you are not at school you must have a good reason eg illness. Unless the school has been previously notified, the automated GroupCall system will alert parents/carers to an absence. On the day you return to school after any absence you must bring a note to explain why you were not at school. This should be signed by a parent/carer and should contain your name, class, the date of your absence and the reason for it. You should hand this note to your Register Teacher. A telephone call is useful, especially if your absence is likely to be for three days or more, but does not replace a note. When you come back to school after an absence, find out what work you've missed and do your bets to catch up. Let your guidance teacher know if you have any problem with this.
APPOINTMENTS
If you know you are going to be absent for all or part of the day to attend an appointment, you should take a note from your parent/carer or you appointment card and give it to your Register Teacher. It is very important that you do this first thing in the morning, or the day before, as the information will then go on the daily bulletin so that teachers know why you are not in class. Also when you return from from your appointment this will not be recorded as an 'unauthorised late'. When you return to school after an appointment you must report in at the Top Office. If an emergency appointment prevents you from notifying the appointment in advance, you should hand in a note from your parent/carer on your return; this will be passed to your Guidance Teacher.
LATENESS
You should be in school by 8.40 every day. If you are late but arrive before 8.55 you should go straight to your register class where your Register Teacher will record the time you arrive. If you arrive after 8.55 you must sign in at the Top Office. All instances of late-coming are recorded. We expect you to have a good reason for being late and do everything in your power to make sure it doesn't happen again. Good timekeeping is very important. If you are late you are missing work and you are also interrupting work for the teacher and the other pupils. If you continue to be late we will write to your parents/carers and they may be invited to come to the school to discuss the problem. Detentions will be issued for persistent late-coming.
UNWELL IN SCHOOL
If you feel unwell in school or have an accident you should ask your class teacher for permission to go to the First Aid Room (in the basement). Mrs Ross is the First Aider. She will give you aid or arrange for you to go home. The school cannot provide medication for you. Make sure you know who your emergency contact person is in case no-one is at home.
You must never leave the school during the day without permission.
