Head Teacher - Mrs Margaret Cowie

Mrs Cowie took up her post as head teacher of Elgin Academy in January 2007, having previously been Depute Head Teacher in The Berwickshire High School in the Scottish Borders. A native of Glasgow, she attended the University of Glasgow where she studied microbiology followed by Aberdeen college of Education. She has been a classroom teacher, Senior teacher, principal teacher of Biology, Assistant Head and Depute Head Teacher in a variety of schools throughout Scotland. Her passion throughout all of this has been teaching and learning and she maintains a keen interest in classroom methodology and the learning process.

Valued members of our support staff - written by S5.   Support Staff   Teachers are not the only staff in the school.  The Academy could not carry on without the help of all the following people   Admin Staff - Miss W Anderson, Mrs S Murray, Mrs E Lee and Mrs E Bell work mainly in the school office but also do work for various departments.  They prepare the daily bulletins, update attendance records, type letters, keep the school accounts and answer all sorts of questions from you and your parents. Reception - Mrs C Lawrie works in the front office where she puts a variety of skills to excellent use. Mrs J Cox looks after all our photocopying.   Janitors -  Derek and Davie make sure that classrooms and the buildings are well-kept and that you behave at intervals and lunchtime.   They supervise the lunch queue and help with many other school activities. Technicians & Technical Assistants -  They provide a broad range of support services to many departments as well as on a whole school basis.   They are at present: Mr K Stirrat (Supervisory Technician), Mr S Perry. (ICT/AV Technician) Mrs H Hird, Mr D Horne, Mr G Clarihew, and Mrs T Fleming (Science/AV Technician)     General Assistants – Mrs A Miekleham, Mrs P Sandilands, Mrs N Paterson.   First Aider  - Mrs J Ross is the First Aid contact.   If you are feeling unwell or get injured you will be sent to her.   Nurse – The school nurse is Mark Swinglehurst.   He is responsible for the medical management of pupils- lifestyle interviews, the vaccination programme, health promotion in conjunction with P.S.E. and all aspects of care given to pupils with specific medical needs.   Mark also provides additional support for pupils via his walk-in clinics.   Canteen -The canteen staff work for Moray Council Direct Services Organisation providing two-course and snack meals at lunchtime.  They offer snacks at morning interval.  The two cooks, Mrs F Dunbar and Mrs B Hendry are assisted by several other ladies. Cleaning staff - They set to work when the school day ends and do an excellent job in keeping the school floors and classrooms, superclean, 24/7.
