Your School Inside and Out - conduct

On the this page, you will find a copy of the Elgin Academy Code of Conduct.  This has been drawn up to help everyone in the school to have the freedom to live and to learn in a happy, pleasant atmosphere.  You will not find any of the rules to be unreasonable.  They add up to a COMMON SENSE CODE and can be summed up very easily.

DO try as hard as you can to learn as much as you can and to
allow other pupils to learn as much as they can.

DO make yourself as clean, smart and polite as you can.

DO accept that all teachers are trying to help you.

DO take care of your books, equipment, buildings and any social

 areas provided for you.

DON'T do or say anything to hurt any other pupil or make any other pupil unhappy.

If you follow this code then we will have the kind of school we can all take pride in.

Classroom Rules

There is a set of classroom rules which apply throughout the school.  These are clearly displayed in every classroom. They are:

  • Arrive on time, properly prepared for learning

  • Follow instructions (straightaway)

  • Keep hands and feet and unkind words to yourself

  • Listen to the person who is meant to be talking

  • Take care of equipment, materials, environment etc.

The Time Out system is the main way in which misbehaviour in the classroom is dealt with.

We hope, though, that all pupils of Elgin Academy will realise that it is important to behave as well as you can at all times.  The Classroom Rules and the Code of Conduct are designed to encourage good standards of behaviour which will allow everyone – pupils and staff – to do their work in an orderly and enjoyable way.  This will help all pupils (and that includes you!) to get the most out of their time in Elgin Academy.

Outside The Classroom

Taking part in any non-timetabled activities and being within social areas at intervals and lunchtimes are privileges.  These privileges can be taken away from you if your behaviour at interval and/or lunchtime has been poor.

All members of staff – teachers, janitors, technicians and senior pupils on supervision duty – help to ensure you behave well and you must follow instructions given by them at all times. The following are examples of unacceptable behaviour:

CORRIDORS/STAIRS  No  running, pushing or jostling, shouting, eating or drinking.

CANTEEN                            Not following properprocedures

  • jumping the queue

  • not returning used plates

  • leaving litter lying
